Hi, I'm Sophie Ellen, a published illustrator and 2D games artist based in the UK.
I’ve been working in games since 2016. Recently I worked with Starbreeze Studios, initially as an independent contractor and then as a concept artist on Project Baxter, their new game set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
I’ve also enjoyed working as an environment artist in indie games, as this has given me the chance to explore more technical aspects of creating visuals in Unity, always striving to create atmospheric game environments through the interplay of beautifully painted assets and optimised graphics components & lighting systems in the game engine, of which I have taken full ownership.
More recently, I have begun to develop skills in Blender as a way of fleshing out and informing illustrative & game concepts using 3D.
Prior to working in the games industry, I completed a Fine Art Foundation Diploma at Byam Shaw, Central Saint Martins, then furthered my studies at London College of Fashion, both of the University Arts London, to study Make-up & Prosthetics for Performance, and whilst there cultivated a love of character design and world building.
Upon graduating with 1st class BA Honours I set out to pursue a career in video games & illustration, continuing my education with specialist atelier training in the fine arts at London Fine Art Studios in 2015, which helped me secure my first role in video games in the following year .
I was also hugely fortunate to attend the Watts Atelier in Encinitas, California, in January of 2019 to participate in an Illustration Boot Camp under the tutelage of E.M. Gist, Lucas Graciano, and Cynthia Sheppard.
